Learn Your Kids To Draw
When you raise kids, you have to notice that one of the main elements of their education is drawing. They get a start at school, but if you really want decent results and enthusiasm for drawing you will have to look for other sources. There is no quick and easy way to learn to draw really. Learning to draw can be a lifetime project, as any professional artist will tell you. There are techniques, however, to learn to draw which will help you improve your art quickly and, if they will not take you to professional status, will at least improve your amature artwork. If you talk to a sketch artist, they will tell you that much of what they do has to do with tricks learned in art school. Drawing has some pretty fascinating methods that would not occur to you unless you were told them.
When I help my students learn to draw, I generally start with the human form, and specifically with the face. If you can learn to draw the face, you will feel like you have accomplished something, and will be ready to move on to more complex things. The first step to learning to draw the face is to memorize its proportions. The eyes are about one third of the way down the entire face, for example, and the mouth has a certain width relative to the head. These vary a little, but not as much as you would think, and once you start to notice the proportions of things, you have already started to learn to draw.
People have many different reasons to learn to draw, and all of these reasons are valid. Some want to learn to draw flash animations, and I fully support this project. Flash is really exciting for those of us in the artistic world. It gives people an easy way to make simple animations without the time consuming, and often expensive processes that normally go with it. Another good reason to learn to draw is to design fashion. If you are someone who makes clothing, whether a professional fashion designer, or simply someone who just likes to make things for yourself or your friends, drawing ability is a must. If you learn to draw well, it will allow you to really flesh out your ideas before you start actually creating the patterns, and this can be a great help in getting things right the very first time. Once you start learning how to draw, you might even decide to make a career out of it, and there are probably plenty of art schools that would be happy to have you. There is no limit to where you can go with art!
